The National History Bee and Bowl was pleased to return to Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, WV on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Thanks to Wayne Clark, the coach at Parkersburg, for his willingness to be our host for the day!

The JV Bee had 17 participants, 9 of whom qualified for our National Bee on Sunday, April 29 in Washington, D.C. 6 advanced to the playoff round, representing Russell Middle School (KY), Bridgeport, Hurricane, Parkersburg South, and Parkersburg HS itself. Elijah Schultz of Hurricane was the first to answer 4 questions in the playoffs, winning the JV Bee title. Ali Wilt of Russell was the next to cross the 4 question finish line, earning second place.

The Varsity Bee had 23 participants, and each of the 10 playoff qualifiers earned a bid to Nationals. The 10 finalists represented Bridgeport, Nitro, Sayre, Charleston Catholic, Parkersburg, and Hurricane. In the first phase, the top 3 seeds all moved on and were joined by the sixth and eighth seeds. Bruce McCuskey (Nitro, #2 seed) and Mason Hill (Sayre, #3 seed) made it to the showdown for the title, where Bruce won 5-2.
