The National History Bee and Bowl held the inaugural Guam History Bee at St. John’s School in Tumon Bay, Guam on Saturday, December 10, 2011. While we only contested 1 prelim round, this tournament was notable for having the first ever separate middle school division. In the end, Adam Rahmani from Father Duenas Memorial High School and Alfonso Garcia, also from Father Duenas took the high school Varsity and Junior Varsity Bees. Lenny from Bishop Baumgartner made history by winning the middle school division.
Thanks so much to all teams who came, I was thrilled to be able to come to Guam to direct our tournament. Next year, we will certainly have another tournament on Guam, and hopefully at least 20 teams in the Bowl, especially as we look to inaugurate a separate middle school bowl division. Thanks to Bishop Baumgartner and Luis Untalan for being brave enough to compete against the high school teams this year!
If any Guam students are interested in our National Championships on April 27-29 in Washington, DC, please contact me and I will do whatever I can to help you make arrangements so you can come join us at Nationals. It would be great to have you come be a part of it!
Thanks so much to everyone at St. John’s for helping out with hosting and logistics – everyone who took part, not least myself, really appreciates it!
Best regards,
David Madden
